This is the briefing about my encounter with the 6 inch Nokia Lumia 1320, a budget friendly version of the high end Nokia Lumia 1520, and it’s a Windows 8 phone with a 720p display and if you are looking for a 6 inch device without making a big hole in your pocket like Nokia Lumia 1520, you should definitely read on.
Hardware
At first glance the Lumia 1520 looks like a magnified Lumia 625 – it has almost same design and same exact build. The 6 inch display fills up your hands and your face. There are some sensors and touch sensitive Windows buttons and VGA camera to go with screen.
The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 6″ high quality IPS LCD screen of 720p resolution, the pixel density works out to 245ppi. The LCD incorporates Nokia’s ClearBlack tech – a set of polarizing filters, which minimize glare. Plus, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top for protection.
The 6inch IPS LCD display is a pretty decent display it shows real tone color reproduction, viewing angles are very good with only a minor shift in contrast when going to extremes, adjustable saturation and temperature levels, and you’ve got an outstanding Smartphone display of its class(720p). Above the screen is a VGA front-facing f/2.8 camera along with an array of sensors. The front of the phablet is entirely coated with Gorilla Glass 3, which covers the screen, the capacitive keys and front camera. The processor is not as impressive as the Lumia 1520, which sports a quad-core 800 clocked at 2.2 GHz, but the Snapdragon S4 1.7 GHz dual-core CPU found in the Lumia 1320 is now officially the second fastest of all Windows Phones. So it is no slouch. It also has 1 GB Ram to go along with it. Rounding out the spec sheet is the 1520′s storage capacity. In addition to the 8 GB of onboard storage, the 1320 also offers a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion up to an additional 64GB, to go along with it you will get 7 GB of SkyDrive space.
Battery life is great, It has same massive battery of 3,400mAh, light-weight Windows Phone OS and power-efficient display, a less spec’d device than Nokia Lumia 1520 makes it the best device among the battery backup of phablets. It has a removable back cover but the huge battery is sealed in. The microSD and SIM card slots reside behind here.
On paper, the Lumia 1320 is a taller (164.2 mm) and thicker(9.8mm) than the Lumia 1520 and even heavier (220 grams versus 209), but the truth is that in your hand, they feel very identical. The Lumia 1320 does have more rounded corners like Lumia 625 in terms of design and build quality .
It doesn’t have the option of wireless charging, since it doesn’t have the three pins I am not expecting it o have a wireless charging cover to be released. Add in 802.11ac, BT 4.0, and NFC support; and LTE capability (only for US I believe) alongside HSPA+, and you’re all the whistles of connectivity to go with it.
Software
Windows Phone’s tile-based UI is still as sharp and as “metro” as ever – and the 1320′s larger display allows it to spread out to a much better way(it can fit in more tiles on the front metro UI). Instead of scrolling around to find the tile you’re looking for, the 1320 has enough room to display everything, all at once.
Even though you’re confined to running apps one at a time(it lacks proper multitasking), applications like Skype, Netflix, Amazon Kindle, and the Microsoft Office suite benefit greatly from all that real estate.
The Nokia Lumia 1320 is a cost-effective business smartphone with built-in Microsoft Office and great applications like Microsoft Exchange, Office 365 and Lync. And enterprise-level security gives you peace of mind wherever you go.
Also in software offering, Nokia’s traditional enhancements are all here, from the huge suite of custom apps to everyday usability enhancements like the double-tap-to-unlock gesture and the Glance screen. And thanks Windows Phone’s inherent stability and fluidity.
It has the best maps from Nokia, no other maps are match for its offline navigation. And you get a lot of cool Nokia exclusive apps and Microsoft office suite.
It has an app called Nokia Storyteller, and it automatically organize your photos, Cinemagraphs, videos and more on an interactive HERE map, so you can share all the details of your story on the big screen.
Camera
The camera is 5 MP non PureView camera a 1/4 inch sensor with an aperture rating of f/2.4, complimented with a single – LED flash. The camera is not the greatest for specs, and I was disappointed to see a 5Mp shooter. But that said the camera is very good especially for macro shots whoing great details and taking very good pictures on daylight. Video Recording is fine showing pretty go details in daylight.
It’s all controlled by the new Nokia Camera app, a new title combining all the best features of Nokia Smart Camera and Nokia Pro Camera. In addition to the familiar sliders allowing manual control of everything from shutter speed to focus, a handful of automatic modes are now available alongside the various motion and color filters.
So the rear camera is capable one not one of the best around. But the macro shots was really good. The front VGA camera is nothing to right home about, it is there to do video call forget the selfies, since it is not very good. These are the sample images, click on the link to see the 5mp photos.

This close up shot has incredible detail
Front Camera Sample
The Video is pretty good, it showed good detail, and sometime the dynamic range was not quite right, still the quality is pretty good.
Unfortunately it doesn’t support Nokia’s Lytro-like Refocus app since it is only available or Pureview devices. It lets you capture first and then focus and re-focus later to produce interactive photos that can be shared on Facebook, which your friends can adjust as well. But any which ways I side loaded this application o the Nokia Lumia 1320 and it worked like a charm.
Performance
Just like any other Windows phone the performance was buttery smooth. Day to Day usage will be fantastic and touch response is top notch (with supersensitive touch). I played games and all worked like a charm, no issues whatsoever.
Used Moliplayer for viewing videos and it was a pleasure to see Videos in the 6 inch display. Every format throwed in just played smoothly and loud speaker quality was pretty loud and clear.
Conclusion
It is a huge phone and is very difficult to handle with one hand(see the hands-on videos). But seeing the sales our local manufacturers are making through phablets, I see lot of people is not like me and they enjoy media consumption with a huge phone. If your idea is to have a huge phablet with Big screen for a budget friendly price and you love using phone for multimedia consumption and Microsoft office suite for work(it has full version of it since it is a windows phone8), this phone perfectly fits for you. The Nokia Lumia 1320 is priced 23,000Rs/- and is available yellow, black, white and a pretty vivid orange/red colour.
